2013 International CES: Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies

The 2013 International CES show is the biggest trade show in the Americas and includes some of the newest eco-design and sustainable technologies. The show is organized by the Consumer Electronics Association and takes place in Las Vegas from January 8 to January 11. Last year 156,000 people attended CES 2012. The show is huge covering almost 2 million square feet of booths and exhibits. CES is not open to the general public and is intended for people in the consumer electronics industry. For those who cannot or will not attend here is a summary of some of the environmentally oriented gadgets at this year's show.

2013 International CES: Smartphones and Eversense 2.0

CES Las Vegas is the world's largest consumer electronics show and there are many technologies on display that can help to minimize our footprints. Smartphones are a ubiquitous part of our lives, however more than half (65%) of the time these phones are being used for purposes other than communications. Increasingly smartphones are becoming interfaces to services. They are now handheld computing tools that can serve our energy and environment needs. This includes everything from monitoring our energy use to calculating our carbon footprints.

One stellar example of a new home energy management system is Eversense 2.0, it uses your phone to turn lights turn off and adjust the thermostat, it can even set your alarm.

DEP Water Quality Management Planning in NJ (Event)

Impact of International Green Construction Code (Event)

On June 5, 2012 an event will take place titled, "Impact of International Green Construction Code (IgCC) on New Jersey." It will take place at Atlantic Cape Community College, Worthington Atlantic City Campus from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Over the last several years the International Code Council has been in the process of developing the International Green Construction Code (IgCC). This code is intended to serve as a model for various state building codes. It was prepared in collaboration with the USGBC, ASHRAE and AIA. The IgCC which is scheduled to launch later this Spring.

LEED-certified Green House Tour (Event)

On May 30, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. a LEED event titled "Certified Green House Tour" will take place in Harding Township, New Jersey. Ever wondered what you could do to your home to make it a more environmentally friendly place to live? This unique tour highlights the planning and implementation that goes into constructing a LEED-certified home.  This event will teach people about LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and other eco-friendly building terms.

On May 16, 2012 an event about the future of energy will take place at Center Hall, Rutgers University Busch Student Center 604 Bartholomew Rd., Piscataway, New Jersey. The keynote speaker is Robert Hanna, President NJ BPU. 

PENPAC Legislative Roundtable (Event)

On May 16, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. the PENPAC roundtable event will be taking place at CIANJ Headquarters, located at 61 S. Paramus Rd., Paramus, New Jersey. The event will address environmental regulations and laws which have a far reaching impact on business, affecting land use, air quality, water, energy, transportation, and infrastructure.
