Economic Assessments Overwhelmingly Support Climate Action

Conservatives commonly argue that acting on climate change is too costly, however, this is contradicted by a slew of economic assessments. When we look at the data it becomes clear that conservatives use economic insecurity to obscure the facts and control the narrative.

There are a number of studies that show global warming undermines economic growth, but the most compelling data comes from cost benefit assessments.

Sustainability Development Metrics: Indices, Approaches and Frameworks

Sustainability development metrics are aggregate measures that extend the concept of value beyond gross Domestic product (GDP). Commonly referred to as sustainability development indicators (SDI), these are measures of sustainability go beyond the generic concept.

Sustainability indicators, indices and reporting systems are of growing importance in both the public and private sectors. SDIs are seen as useful in a wide range of settings, by a wide range of actors this includes international and intergovernmental bodies; national governments and government departments; economic sectors; administrators of geographic or ecological regions; communities; nongovernmental organizations; and the private sector.

Businesses are extending their metrics beyond the measurement of profit to other forms of value of creation. The new sustainability imperatives demands that we include new metrics. Event - New Metrics 14 Conference

The fourth annual New Metrics ’14 conference will take place September 24-26 in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2011 Sustainable Brands launched its first “New Metrics” conference, initially partnering with Wharton’s IGEL program to host the conference. This year they are collaborating with MIT’s Sloan School of Business to bring together an audience of 300 brand leaders to be in dialogue with 60+ thought leaders from well-respected brands, NGOs and think tanks who will speak about how they’re working to create a path toward smarter, more accurate and more inclusive business metrics.

Drawing Inspiration from Environmentalists who have Gone Before Us

As we continue to hope for the birth of a new era of environmental responsibility, we can draw inspiration from those who have gone before us and done so much to move us forward. Here are the abbreviated biographies of six environmentalists who invested their lives into the noblest of noble causes.

Judy Bonds

The anti-mountaintop removal mining activist, Judy Bonds, died in 2011 at the age of 58. Judy was an engaging speaker who inspired many people to get involved with efforts to protect mountains from mining. She was a powerful public speaker who had an awe inspiring capacity to rally people around the cause. One of her greatest accomplishments involved a 2010 march in which thousands protested in front of the White House for “Appalachia Rising.”

Video: The Inherent Design Flaws In The "Resource Based Economy" Model



This video is Peter Joseph's reply to Zeitgeist's support for a resource based economy. In this video Jospeh reviews the numerous, very real, and legitimate problems. Those problems are not minor details that can be glossed over or fixed at a later date, they are in fact inherent design flaws which render it unworkable.

In this video from the Zeitgeist Vancouver Lecture Series, a Resource Based Economic model is explained by Matt Berkowitz. The Zeitgeist Movement was founded in 2008, it is a Sustainability Advocacy Organization which conducts community based activism and awareness actions. The Zeitgeist Movement recognizes that issues such as poverty, corruption, collapse, homelessness, war, starvation and the like appear to be "Symptoms" born out of an outdated social structure. Their defining goal is the installation of a new socioeconomic model based upon technically responsible Resource Management, Allocation and Distribution through what would be considered The Scientific Method of reasoning problems and finding optimized solutions.

This 18 minute video is a recording of the TEDx [Portugal] Talk by Peter Joseph. Its focus is a resource based economy which describes a post-scarcity world economy. A resource based economy supports the removal of monetary exchange and is advocated by groups like The Venus Project.
