Hulu's Green Video Programming

Hulu offers web-based commercial-supported streaming video of TV shows and movies from networks and studios. Hulu provides video in Flash Video format, including many films. Hulu also provides web syndication services for other websites including AOL, MSN, MySpace, Facebook, Yahoo!, and Comcast's fancast.com. Hulu is a joint venture of NBC Universal (General Electric), Fox Entertainment Group (News Corp) and ABC Inc. (The Walt Disney Company), with funding by Providence Equity Partners, which made a US$100 million equity investment and received a 10% stake. Here are a few of Hulu's green shows.

Big Ideas for a Small Planet: A half-hour show that covers green technology business, building and alternative fuels. The one full episode is about alternative power — sun, wind and cow manure. And 64 other clips that run an average of a minute each and are about cargo container homes, electronic waste recycling, green fashion and more.

FORA.tv Environment: This show specializes in showing world-class speakers, debates and presentations. Their Hulu channel has nine clips total, four of them full episodes with people like San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom talking about tidal power, Jean-Michel Cousteau warning about the dangers of fish farming, and Amory Lovins giving a presentation about renewable energy.

Vanguard: This show sends correspondents all around the world to report on important and sometimes controversial issues like water and energy.

Earth Day: Select environmentally themed segments from NBC News shows featuring a young environmental activist, the history of Earth Day, a greener logging company and green cars at the Detroit Auto Show.

Building Green: A half-hour series about green building and the construction of a green dream home. The 13 episodes cover straw bale construction, doors and windows, lighting, water, floors, interior and exterior finish work and more.

Red Hot & Green: Half-hour episodes about greening up regular rooms in typical home-makeover reality show style. The 13-episode season highlights the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, garage and master bedroom.
